Whiskey and I talked comic today (over some burritos and gift-nachos) and hopefully we'll have yet another comic up and...running?...soon!

I'm down 1 whiskey 'n coke and maybe I'll charge another before the night is through. My "3 day weekend" was turned into a 1 day weekend thanks to my Saturday work schedule and my mobile knife sharpening appointment today. I'm actually thankful for that, since money definitely outweighs the need for free time at the moment. Never-the-less, we should all be thankful for what Martin Luther King Jr. has does for this country and for the fact that Mr. Obama (soon to be President Obama) has given the final trump-card to all questions on race in America. No country can reinvent themselves quite like America can, huh? Lets hear it for our country! Here's to a great 8 years! ::raises glass into the air::

That is such a bum statistic. Totally misleading. First of all, Moose was referenced in a comic back on June 12th, 2007, which is much sooner than 2006. Second, the last strip actually featuring a visual of Moose was posted on December 1, 2006 (according to our archives; you may be the judge of how accurate THAT system is *<--sarcasm warning!*). Going by Stroke City lag time, December is practically January, meaning that we haven't seen Moose since 2007. And it JUST TURNED 2009, so we’re practically still in 2008. It's barely been a year since we've seen Moose. So no more of this Moose-hunt business. The Moose always pokes his head out when he's damn well ready. (Insert penis reference (for old times sake)).

Here is the new comic. Will this 1-comic-streak last? Probably not... but enjoy! Also, I was checking out the archives and realized that this is the first comic since 2006 that Moose was drawn. We started the comic in August of 2006 so that gives you some sign of the wanton neglect Moose has received. Where is the Moose lovin' at?

I had a day off today and since we've been experiencing some nice Santa Ana weather lately (in January, too!) I decided to go on a hike. I went out to Point Loma and charged the Bay Side Hike and absolutely loved it! Here are a few pictures from the hike.

Get out and exercise, kids! There's no better way to attract a woman! (Besides maybe a puppy or a cute Boxer.)

Comic 2009: Delayed Till Tomorrow

So Whiskey Johnson did it! We talked comic on Sunday evening and he drew up a comic on Monday. I have yet to color it but I plan to tomorrow. I have some *real business* to get to first (sharpening business that'll hopefully make me some money), but after that I'm going to edit, color, and post the bejeezus out of this new comic.

I txt'ed Whiskey some new Stroke City comic ideas this after noon (3 of them) but he hasn't responded yet. That either means they were sh*t or he's in a recluse mood. Either way, I hope this newest comic-post won't follow the 2+month hiatus trend like all of 2008's comics.

Since Whiskey just quit his 2nd job, hopefully he'll start investing some more time into his comic. With a little bit of effort, this site could definitely be bringing in some money. Enough to afford his bar tab, at least. : ))

I will remain cautiously optimistic about this second 2nd chance we're giving Whiskey (and as long as he keeps paying his $10 yearly renewal fee for the domain I suppose he can have as many 2nd chances as he wants). I hope to receive some new comics or comic-related content in my inbox soon but as Whiskey's girlfriend told me on New Years, "Don't count on it!"

Redfield just reminded me last night that we have an iGoogle page. I forgot that ol' Double D set it up as a way to make posting more convenient (and essentially possible) for me.

So here's a little post to usher in what Redfield (the Knife Sharpener) and I hope will be a productive new year for Stroke City! Saturday is my last day of working at my 2nd job (ending a job is always bitter-sweet for me (especially when said job includes such perks as allowing me to check out and take home new books)), so look for new comics coming soon (and possibly some other surprises as well!).

Tempted and Mislead

Damn. I invited Whiskey Johnson over to my place for promises of Stroke City talk and alcohol-induced fun but he ended up peacing out before any progress was made on the stroke.

Sure, we accomplished plenty on our upcoming MotA cartoon BUT it would have been nice to get some progress done on our own comic. The city has had a freeze on decent comics for some time now and I was hoping that we'd make a breakthrough on that. So it goes.

Expect a new Tinsel's Tavern sometime. Probably not tonight, but sometime soon. I think that this arc will last two more pages and then it'll be time for original WJ and MotA journal comics. During that time the city will go through another face lift (hopefully the last) and I will hopefully have enough time to create a decent buffer so that I won't disappoint you all every Monday & Friday. That's the plan...time to drink my sorrows away. How appropriate that I just ran out of Whiskey.

I will try to continue to improve the city in every way that I can. Like city contractors, it may not always be on time but it will eventually get done...I just hope the city will benefit from my efforts.

Crazy night last night, folks. Not for me - I was the DD - but most of my crew did get pretty crazy. Justin played a few games of beer pong (and drank for both teammates), Drew managed to wear as much drink as he consumed, and when Jeff wasn't tearing up the dance floor he was threatening to tear off some dude's face.

My job was to keep my friends (and my girlfriend) in check but sometimes you just gotta stand back and let the good times flow. I think that should be our city motto!

Early in the evening I commandeered somebody's camera and ended up taking about 2,000 pics of the party. I'm glad to say that I got plenty of photos of Drew dancing. That experience is just one more hilarious notch on Drew's belt. I'm telling you, I haven't laughed that hard in a long, long time. When the camera-owner posts these pictures, I'll be sure to share them with you all.

I actually really enjoyed being the designated driver last night. I got a unique view of this particular party's dynamic. There were the quiet people sitting on the couch, playing slow songs on the karaoke machine. There were the rowdy folk outside playing beer pong and being hilarious. Then there were the people in the kitchen & dining room that were somewhere in between: an occasional impromptu dance party accompanied by some hooting and hollah'ing, but mostly just chill talk. The interaction between the kitchen krew and the outside peeps were fun and frequent, but I'm sad to say that the karaoke crowd wasn't feelin' the party. When we turned on Bohemian Rhapsody they ended up turning down the volume on the TV and told everybody to be quiet after the song was done. Kinda lame, right? But whatcha gonna to do when people are incapable of feelin' the rock?

Surprise Visits & Lack of Lighting

I had the comic about 60% inked when the brightest room in my house decided to blow ANOTHER light bulb out. I'm not sure what's the deal here, since these are quite new CFL's and should be good for another ~8,000 hours. I know it's a weak excuse, but I'll need to finish this when the lighting is better. I'm really sorry... I would have loved to have a comic up on time for once. Heh heh.... ::sigh::

On a higher note, Ann & Amanda came by in a surprise visit earlier! We went to Lucha Libre, had a beer at the Aero Club, and then let them get home to bed. They have a crazy Las Vegas filled weekend ahead of them so I don't want them to pre-game too early. : P

Working Hard (Hardly Working?)

I am still working on the comic. It WILL be up today, but I still need to hammer out the dialogue in the first panel and then finish drawing up the last panel. I'm trying to get Whiskey to help me with the script but he's pretty darn elusive these days.

I have to leave for my 4+ hour class pretty soon here so expect the comic to be posted by around 11pm...I think. : D

Stroke City Will Return After Happy Hour Is Over

An explanation and an apology is in order. I haven't updated Tinsel's Tavern in AGES and I know that you strokers out there are on the edge of your seats! Who are the men standing in the doorway? Did Jigger blow up? All questions will be answered when I get around to answering them.

This first story arc was an experiment. I started this comic to see just what I could take and it seems like a Monday/Wednesday/Friday update schedule is too much for me. So much, in fact, that it has made me not comic at all for the past week. I'm sorry. I'll finish up this story next week (I think...I may have 4 more pages left) and then I will post a week of journal-esque comics from Whiskey Johnson and Justin, complimented by some Redfield-journal-entries from our San Fransisco road trip. After the week of journal comics, the comics code should be done and I will hopefully have a decent comic-buffer to be able to do a Monday/Friday comic update. We'll see!

I can be 100% sure, but Whiskey may be dead. Or drunk. He hasn't posted in months, so whatevs.

City Work Is Slow Work, My Friends

Another new Tinsel's Tavern has been posted. I have most of Monday free so the plan is to upload Monday's comic later today and then I'll be completely caught up. : D

Today was a mixture of productivity and terrible, terrible boredom. I woke up feeling good so I went for a run and did a little gardening before lunch. Then I drove over to the Miramar greenery to pick up some free mulch & compost but was turned away because I didn't have any ID on me saying that I was a SD resident. When I got home, without any apparent projects to tackle, the boredom set in. My general rule of thumb is if I'm being stricken with a severe case of boredom I'll try to take a nap. The reasoning behind this is that when I'm bored, I just sit around and continue to be bored. If I take a nap, then I transfer those hours to (ideally) a more productive time of day. So, after my nap I cleaned out my auto, arranged some stuff in my shed, put up some shelves for MJ, drew the comic and put up an ad over here.

The funny thing about this ad is that WJ drew it for the site years ago but at the time I didn't have a program to put the panels into animated-gif form. I had completely forgotten about these ads until I was exploring the Stroke City archives on my hard drive and accidentally found 'em. So there you go, Whiskey...the ball is back in your court now. : )

I feel like a real webcomic artist

So, another night of fun times = no comic update. Frown. Today was a crazy busy day at work, followed by a quick nap, followed by a lot more work, followed by Drew and Justin coming over for a night of the Aero Club and then a Lucha Libre session. I'm planning on updating tomorrow and then continuing the story on Monday, updated as usual (Monday, Wednesday, & Friday).

Just so you all know, I'm planning on Tinsel's Tavern to be short, independent story arcs consisting of around 10-15 pages (for now). Maybe shorter, maybe longer. Whatever, right?

It's late, Strokers...sign up for the eBlast above and hopefully we'll be sending out a newsletter soon. Everybody is leaving me so it's probably time to close up shop. Gotta be at work in about seven hours. : /

Big news, today! As you can see, the site got a bit of a face-lift. I added some new features (like the newsletter above) and I'm debuting a new comic project: Tinsel's Tavern!

I've been tinkering with the idea of making my own comic for some time now and finally the stars aligned and I was able to realize this goal. Don't worry, the comics will still be fueled by eco-friendly whiskey and the artwork will still be... low fi. The only difference, really, is that I'll be drawing everything and will be introducing you all to some new city characters (and that I'm going to try and update more consistently - Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for now!) In true Stroke City fashion, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the Tinsel Tavern comic section up tonight so here is the direct feed to the comics. Enjoy!
